Spiritwood at Pine Lake is the result of generations of Lutherans concerned for the growth and well being of people living in the communities of Western Washington.

Early in the twentieth century, members of Lutheran congregations in the Puget Sound area worked together to provide facilities for Youth Camping, a site in what is now Federal Way, called Lutherland.  This site served the churches and communities for many decades.  Then Lake Killarney became unusable for swimming or boating, jets overhead drowned out campfire singing and storytelling; and buildings, well past their prime needed removal or remodeling.  Lutherland’s service as a camp was over.

Sale of the property enabled the purchase of a fine Dominican Catholic facility for use as a retreat center.  This facility, the Lutheran Center for Renewal, again served the church and community well, providing a place for meetings, solitude, reflection, and community building.  By the beginning of the twenty first century, this facility was in need of extensive renovation, and was no longer a place to retreat to – it was in the center of a very actively growing city.

It was decided that the resources available could now be put to use for a new ministry for the church and community:  an assisted living and memory care facility.  Now another generation will benefit from the care and concern Lutherans have shown for the communities of Western Washington:  Spiritwood at Pine Lake!

Revenues in excess of expenses, if any, are distributed to 501(c)3 non-profit youth oriented organizations. Spiritwood at Pine Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care Community honors and celebrates the contribution that elders continue to make through their lives and vision for future generations; establishing a model where elders and young people are working together to make a difference.
